Baldur's Gate 3 File Size Is Bloody Massive

This is one of the reasons i don't like buying games digitally.

@Areus even if you bought it on disc, it would install all that data on ssd anyways

@djape Yeah but if someone has slow internet it can take ages to download that, installing it from a disc is way faster

For example the other day I downloaded RDR2 on PC which is 117GB and it took me about 11h to download it

I might try and delete a game that I no longer play and install this new game that I will play. See if that works.

@mariomaster96 yeah of course. I prefer disc for sure too but I’mjust saying the install size would be the same weather its disc or full internet download

Man... i want a physical release.
I'm really not gonna get another external ssd. Physical lets me store the games on disc and delete them from the SSD until i want to install them again.

Oh well I'm just glad the PlayStation version hasn't been delayed as im quite looking forward to this.

Is it 3rd September with early access still for ps5? I know pc wasn’t doing that because of the release date being brought forward?

@djape Yep. I remember installing MGS4 on the PS3. Hours of just staring at Snake smoking a cigarette.
They should bring back what Tekken 1 did and hide how long it took to boot up with a copy of Galaga.

@Northern_munkey I looked at Far Cry 6 the other day, having downloaded it off Extra a while ago and turns out that crap is taking up somewhere north of 100GB, and I haven't even bothered to play it. So an easy solution for me on this occasion.

Having said that, I'd happily find a way of making 300GB free for this if I had to 😀

Is this just the base game size? There's probably a day one patch on top as well. And hopefully with how successful it should be, I hope that there may be expansions or dlc content similar to witcher 3.

@MeerkatSimples Yes, if you want to pay more for the digital deluxe edition then you get 3 days beta testing early access to Act 1😉

Fine by me. This one can be as big as it needs - I know it's being put to good use.

Currently PS5 compatible SSD with heat sink are bonkers cheap at the moment in uk.

Lots of retailers have 1TB at £75 approx and 2TB for £110 approx.

And it's across manufacturers including Samsung. WD, Sabrent, fire cuda etc.

Looks like there's plenty of spare SSD stock and nobody buying.

So how are we thinking the controller UI is going to be for this?

I'm guessing daunting, although DOS2 was playable on console, and that was years ago.

@djape You Wouldn't be at the mercy of your internet speed to download it though.

Don't really get the issue with internet speed.

1, you can preload it before launch I expect.

2, you can always download the game whilst you sleep.

3, .....and at work the next day. Presumably with £70 to frivolously spend on a toy, anyone getting the game has a job.

4, it's only once in a blue moon you'd have to reinstall it, if your SSD failed etc. But chances are you will have finished it before that happens, or before you need to clear space for another game.

5, buying a physical copy can lead to a 24 hour delay if the darn thing doesn't turn up. Driving into town can cost time, parking, bus, fuel, getting mugged, and maybe they don't physically have it in stock when you get there!

Swings and roundabouts. Just seems like a trivial argument IMO.

Only legit reason is re-sale value. That's irrefutable and strong enough on it's own, that this dubious "internet speed" argument is superfluous.

Well got myself a new 2TB drive in the UK for £109 nice corsair one "optimised" for PS5 on flash sale. (Corsair MP600 PRO LPX 2TB M.2 PCIe Gen 4 NVMe SSD), I think my wife would have killed me for the £300 4TB one (I am managing to get a new PS5 as I have been diagnosed with Skin cancer and she's felling bad for me)

So taking my 1TB to CEX tomorrow to cash it in.

My god though how hard was getting into my PS5, I don't think it was that hard the first time, took over 30 mins of trying to wriggle it with multiple YT vids to try and work out how to do it.

It was a 5 min job after that getting the old SSD out.

Anyways ready for all my big games to go on, Cyberpunk, RDRD, BG3 etc.

@MeerkatSimples Yup EA on PS5 is the 1st September with access to ACT 1.

Already bought it on PC so I can play it on Thursday and I am tempted to double dip on it.

That’s fine with me. I doubt I’ll be playing anything else when this comes out anyway!

@SgtTruth really good valid points. I usually download things whilst asleep or at work. 24 hour delay if it dosnt turn up? I had to wait 3 weeks for diablo 4 because it got lost in the post and hit.com refunded my money instead of sending another after ironically increasing the cost of the game over £10 more than i pre ordered it at 🤣

Unlike COD, it makes complete sense that the game would be big, because the game is literally big.
