The Last of Us 3

Development of a third entry in The Last of Us series is apparently beginning to ramp up — with motion capture looking to take place this year — according to Twitter profile ViewerAnon. Supposedly a reliable source in the movie sphere, the profile previously posted Neil Druckmann's next game is The Last of Us: Part III, and has now expanded on that claim.

They claim Naughty Dog is "rolling cameras and recording audio" for motion capture and "Ellie is at least as important in [The] Last of Us Part III as she was in Part II". Ellie was considered a lead character alongside Abby, with the campaign equally split between them. Therefore, the Twitter user is suggesting Ellie will play a pivotal role in the third instalment.

ViewerAnon's claims are unconfirmed, of course, but Naughty Dog has revealed it has "a brand new single-player experience" in the works alongside The Last of Us Multiplayer. It's not known whether the title is set in the world of The Last of Us or if it's a new IP, though. The news came as the developer announced it needs more time on the project, but a Bloomberg report revealed the online game is in trouble. While its overall quality and long-term viability are being assessed, employees have been reallocated to other projects.

"A small group remains on the project while the company re-evaluates the direction," Jason Schreier claimed. "While the game hasn’t been cancelled, many of its developers have been moved to other projects." It would be safe to assume the single player project is one of them, which ViewerAnon insists is The Last of Us: Part III. "All I can say is I’ve been very vocal for quite a while that The Last of Us Part III is in development and others are finally noticing. Major filming is happening this year," a follow-up tweet reads.
