Sony has just released a new system software update for PS5. Not to be confused with the firmware that's currently in beta, this update is a minor one — although it does require installation before you can sign back into PSN.
Weighing in at 1.15GB, what does version 23.01-07.61.00.00 do, then? Here's the official word from Sony:
"This system software update improves system performance."
It's business as usual this time, then, but it's also probably preparation for the console's incoming updates. The firmware currently in beta makes various improvements and additions, like Dolby Atmos support and more accessibility options, and Sony is also currently testing PS5 game streaming for PS Plus Premium members. There's no date for when these new features will roll out for everyone, but it appears they're not far off.

I can't wait until I get back home to download this
I am currently on the new beta build and it is pretty stable, no bugs at all, got an update again for it yesterday.
@Skeletor85 Do games default to Atmos output if you enable it in the system menu?
@Kidfried
@Skeletor85 have you been able to try the Atmos compatibility? I've heard very different feedback on the net about it.
Grand us stability
What a time to be alive. So much performance, so much security, so much stability.
God of System: Stability
My PlayStation is so stable I’ve started putting horses inside it
This is a Day One download for me.
Nothing at all, nothing at all, NOTHING AT ALL!
Stupid sexy updates.
Still not as stable as a PS4 - but then that doesn't need a stand to lie down...
Everybody's most stable relationship continues...
@Skeletor85 Is this the build that will give us the beepy-turny-offy option?
@Skeletor85 is it true about the new stars page ?
I can't wait to get me some of that improved system performance, I'm drooling at the very thought of it.
PlayStation Stars should be coming to PS5 soon though right?
It still beeps.
As expected, PS4 v10.71 is available now too.
No prizes for guessing what is does....
I downloaded the beta system update........ Then a week later another update 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Maybe wait till all updates are bundle together next time lol
@D77 Yeah, it has high (normal), medium, low and off.
@Mikey856 no the star system is not in this beta
Has disabled the internet until you install it. Makes me think it's one of the behind the scenes fixes to try to patch the recent PS5 hack, since they finally jailbroke it.
Can't wait for dolby atmos support, I hope it will work on netflix app too.
Removed - unconstructive feedback
@MagisterMagi "Grant"
Always happy to get bug fixes. Thanks Sony
And I still can’t mute the beep… 🤷♂️
@sanderson72 oh sheet throwing shots out here 😆😆😆
@C25CLOUD okay thanks for the update, that’s a shame
I believe Sony is gearing up for the recently leaked project cronos update. I was actually extremely surprised by this leak, we knew Sony was working on making PS5 games available to stream but what I didn't realize was how much effort they were putting into building out their cloud gaming infrastructure. After the purchase of Gaikai in 2012 we saw PS Now launch in 2014 and it's been kinda stagnant event after merging PS Now into PS+ Premium but now we know why. Below is a reference to the project cronos leak via insider gaming. The fact they've been working on this for the past 5 years is crazy and utilizing the the PS5 SSD as well as it's custom I/I co-processors means a substantial upgrade to PlayStation cloud gaming as we know it.
It’s understood that the development of Cronos began 5 years ago due to the complexity surrounding the PlayStation 5’s SSD. Whilst the SSD is very fast in the PS5, it created a new challenge that made it impossible for Sony to develop the infrastructure needed using current technology on the market (functionality, latency, etc.). This meant that Sony, under the Future Technology Group, designed a completely new network storage solution based on PCIe (NTB) which leverages NTB and the PS5 I/O co-processors.
The final product is a custom storage server under the codename ‘Kura’ which reads up to 5 GB/s with <1ms latency.
Sources said that Sony will have a total of 28 data centers across 15 metros for the PS5 Cloud streaming rollout, with its plans to fully launch the feature in FY23 (April 2023 – March 2024).

Never had an issue with my PS5, PS4 is moving towards 10 years of service with no issue, these updates must be doing something right
@LN78 unfortunately I do not have Atmos so I am not sure about this but you can definitely enable it in the PS5 settings, just not sure if it is default in every game then
@Olmaz I do not own an Atmos setup unfortunately
@D77 yes, there is a normal beep, low beep or no beep setting
@Mikey856 this is not visible in the beta yet, I think they will add it in a later build
What about the ability to play ps3 discs? That would be a great update 🤷🏻♂️
