Bungie has announced that experienced voice actor Keith David will succeed the late Lance Reddick in the role of Commander Zavala in Destiny 2. Reddick passed away back in March, aged 60. In a blog post, Bungie announced that David would be taking up the mantle as the English voice of Commander Zavala through next year's The Final Shape expansion and beyond.

David has previously worked with Bungie, voicing the alien Arbiter in the Halo series (as well as Sheperd's mentor in Mass Effect, Captain David Anderson), and said of his appointment: "I am honoured to continue the great work of Lance Reddick as Zavala. Lance captured the character's sense of integrity so wonderfully. It is my intention to continue that work.”

Zavala has always been a grounding character in the Destiny universe, and Bungie has plans to continue his journey but stresses that Reddick's already-recorded lines will remain untouched.

Destiny 2's The Final Shape is expected sometime in 2024. It will be the game's eighth content expansion and the twelfth of the series overall. It will, at long last, conclude The Light and Darkness Saga, which began all the way back in 2014 with the launch of the original game.
