Classic shooter Quake 2 has just dropped onto the PlayStation Store. Available for both PS5 and PS4, this remastered edition is priced at $9.99 / Β£7.99, and boasts a bunch of welcome enhancements. For starters, it's got fully functioning online modes β€” complete with crossplay β€” motion control support (so you can aim using your controller's motion sensors), and a brand new expansion called 'Call of the Machine'. It even includes Quake II 64, which is interesting!

The official description reads: "Enjoy the original, authentic version of Quake II, now with up to 4K* and widescreen resolution support, enhanced models, improved enemy animations and gore, improved and restored AI behaviors, enhanced cinematics, dynamic and colored lighting, anti-aliasing, depth of field, the original, heavy rock soundtrack by Sonic Mayhem, and more."

And, if you're looking to blast through Quake 2 with friends, it's worth noting that this remaster supports four-player split-screen on Sony's platforms.

As for the aforementioned Call of the Machine expansion: "A brand-new Quake II experience from MachineGames consisting of 28 campaign levels and one multiplayer deathmatch map." It sounds like this re-release has gone above and beyond.
